Context
Good technical content is expensive to create, so at SitePoint we were always looking for ways to reuse existing content in novel ways. However, adapting content after it has been created can prove to be difficult, so I pioneered a new type of course for SitePoint Premium that would be designed in a modular fashion, so that discrete parts of content could be easily carved out to create useful blog content.
My input
- Proposing the idea and getting stakeholder buy-in
- Developing the idea and generating briefs
- Recruiting an editor to commission authors and technical reviewers
- Leading the editorial team
Outcomes
- Initial series of four courses was successful and so another series of five courses was greenlit
- Effectively lower costs enabled us to tackle more niche topics that otherwise we might not have been able to justify, such as Astro, user journey mapping, and HTML email
- Great reviews on SitePoint Premium
- The “free” content that we generated for the blog performed well above expectations
